Lovecraftian Horror

In silence and in darkness and in cold the horrid unspeakable thing lay, growing, growing, growing, over the slow and patient crawling of time not measured by puny humans, until, at last, it burst the chains laid on it by its long-lost makers and crawled into the world of men...

I speak, of course, of my potato rosemary bread dough, which I left in the fridge to rise overnight.  While mixing this batch I got lazy and just dumped in all the potato water instead of measuring 3 cups, and the increased volume overflowed the bowl:

But of the ancient mysteries of oxygen-and-sugar-burning, carbon-dioxide-and-ethanol-producing organisms that are yeast, I must not speak.

Pointless Stitchery

I made a small thing.  The pattern was for some uninspired snippet of melody, and with actual notes, rather than pawprints.  I added the cat and stitched the first few notes of the The Queen of the Night's Aria, because of course I did.

Poetry Tuesday

An HULK-KU* for Dragon Age Origins, The Sloth Demon's Dream adventure arc:

Locked door, can't pick, drat
HULK SMASH!  Door open good now.
Monsters ahead!  Charge!
Smashing the doors was really fun.  Even though technically I'm a stone golem, not Hulk.

The Grandeur In This View of Life

There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.
-Charles Darwin, The Origin of Species

February 12th would be the 207th birthday of Charles Darwin.  I made a bushy, branching tree of life green tea cake:

And here is "Endless Forms Most Beautiful", the symphonic rock version:

Enthusiastic Consent for Everyone, Jade Empire Style

The computer game Jade Empire has several possible romance paths.  Having played two so far, I want to note that
  • A hetero romance video sequence for the deciding-we-like-and-trust-each-other-enough-for-fun-sexytimes*-and-heck-we-may-all-die-in-battle-tomorrow moment finishes with a kiss: the theatrically classic, one-person-bent-over backwards-kiss:
  • But a lesbian romance fades to black before we actually get to the kiss.  So, good for the programmers to include this romance option, but...what happened?  Threatened by our freedom-to think-as-they-think-loving American censors, or just not brave enough to keep going?
I am happy to report that the good people of the internet have totally got this one, and there is a fix:

I am sad that policing number and gender of persons involved is still more important socially than enthusiastic consent by all involved, birth control, disease protection, bodily autonomy, trust, or respect.
